At Managing Our Mental (MOM CIC), we believe mental health support must be both evidence-informed and heart-led. Our approach blends psychological understanding with deep compassion, offering early, accessible, and culturally responsive support in the heart of the community.

We exist to bridge a gap — between professional care and everyday people, between crisis services and prevention, between what’s offered and what’s really needed. Mental health support doesn’t have to be cold or clinical. It can be human, connected, and kind.

Built on Lived Experience

Community-led and shaped by real voices

MOM was created because many people silently struggle, finding traditional systems too rigid or out of reach. Our foundation is lived experience — led by people who have navigated mental health challenges themselves. This insight allows us to create spaces where trust is earned, stories are honoured, and people are met where they are.

What Makes Us Different

We combine trauma-informed care, resilience-building, and education with real empathy. Our approach includes: Peer-led support groups, Psychoeducational workshops, Creative and cultural outreach, Pop-up cafés and drop-ins, Digital inclusion support, Accredited training and Nature-based activities. This holistic blend meets emotional, social, and practical needs, especially for underserved communities.

We began in Hammersmith & Fulham, the London borough with the highest suicide rate. Today, MOM continues to co-produce programmes with residents, listening closely to people’s needs. We prioritise cultural relevance, language sensitivity, and inclusivity, ensuring no one feels invisible in their mental health journey.

MOM focuses on prevention — early connection and resilience before crisis. Healing begins with being heard, so our groups are co-created by people with lived experience of trauma and recovery. While rooted in West London, our vision is to expand MOM-style hubs across the UK, training volunteers and building partnerships so more communities can access people-centred, transformative support.

The Mother
behind MOM

Alison Roberts has dedicated nearly two decades of her life to the NHS, working as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner for 19 years. Her commitment to mental health is not only professional but deeply personal. With three degrees in psychotherapy, counselling, and psychology — as well as a postgraduate qualification in psychology and counselling and a diploma in mental health — Alison brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to her work. At MOM, she now leads our psycho-educational workshops, equipping people with the tools to understand and manage their mental health. But Alison’s story is more than qualifications. It is a journey shaped by lived experience. Her son, Michael, suffered a severe head injury at the age of eight, which led to long-term challenges and, eventually, a diagnosis of schizophrenia. As a mother, Alison witnessed firsthand the gaps in support, the isolation families face, and the urgent need for better understanding and care before crises escalate. Alongside Alison, our CEO, Chris, has his own lived experience of mental health struggles. After the COVID-19 lockdown, Chris experienced a serious breakdown that led to him being sectioned. For him, it was a life-changing setback — but also a turning point. Both Chris and Alison saw, through personal journeys, that too often mental health services step in only after a crisis, rather than supporting people earlier with tools, empathy, and grassroots-led care. It was out of this shared vision — and shared pain — that Managing Our Mental (MOM) was born. In January 2024, MOM was officially incorporated as a Community Interest Company (CIC), with a mission to create services that are flexible, people-led, and rooted in lived experience. From day one, our goal has been clear: to support vulnerable adults and young people before they reach crisis point. Today, MOM delivers a range of support, including talking groups, one-to-one mentoring, and psycho-educational workshops designed to build resilience and reduce stigma. Every part of our work reflects Alison’s belief — and our team’s shared commitment — that mental health support should be accessible, empathetic, and community-driven. MOM is not just an organisation. It is a movement, a family, and a lifeline for those who might otherwise fall through the cracks.

Know the CEO

“I didn’t just want to talk about mental health. I wanted to build something that felt like a lifeline — something real, from the heart, for the people.” Chris Jordan is the Founder and Director of Managing Our Mental (MOM CIC) — a community-rooted mental health organisation shaped by his own lived experience and driven by a deep passion to create change where it’s needed most. Chris’s journey with mental health is personal, complex, and powerful. Like many, he grew up in a world where emotional struggles were often hidden, dismissed, or stigmatised. It wasn’t until he faced a severe mental health crisis himself — during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic — that he truly realised how fragile and unsupported many people are when it comes to their emotional wellbeing. That experience changed him. At a time when isolation and fear were overwhelming, Chris found himself navigating not only his own mental health but also witnessing how many others in his community were silently struggling too. The systems in place felt cold, distant, and difficult to access — and when help came, it often lacked cultural understanding, empathy, or continuity. That’s when the seed for MOM was planted. Chris envisioned a space that felt like a hug, not a form. A place where people could talk honestly about what they were going through without judgment, labels, or red tape. He wanted to create the kind of support he never had — rooted in compassion, not bureaucracy. That dream became Managing Our Mental (MOM) — a community for healing, for expression, for togetherness. But Chris isn’t just a passionate advocate — he’s also a doer. He holds a Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness, and is currently training to become a certified Mental Health First Aid England Instructor. His unique ability to connect with others through empathy and storytelling has earned him recognition from the NHS as an Expert by Experience, and he regularly delivers motivational talks and workshops to inspire others. Professionally, Chris works as a Commercial Manager in central London, balancing his leadership of MOM with a full-time career. But what sets him apart is the way he brings his whole self into every space — from boardrooms to peer groups, workshops to cafés. Chris is also MOM’s resident Wellbeing DJ, using music as a therapeutic tool to connect, uplift, and create shared joy. Whether spinning vinyl at a community pop-up or leading a breathing workshop to the rhythm of soul and house beats, Chris knows the power of music to heal and unite. At the heart of everything he does is a simple belief: "Mental health support should be accessible, human, and filled with heart." His mission is not just to support people in crisis, but to create spaces of prevention, education, and empowerment — especially for those who are often left out of the conversation: men, global majority communities, LGBTQI+ individuals, young people, and anyone made to feel like they don’t belong. Chris has built MOM on trust, empathy, and solidarity. Every project is shaped by real stories, real people, and real care. He’s living proof that with compassion, courage, and community, healing is possible — and that even the hardest chapters in life can lead to something beautiful.

Our Aim

At Managing Our Mental (MOM CIC), our core aim is to improve mental health outcomes by encouraging early intervention, fostering emotional resilience, and offering accessible, culturally responsive support to individuals and communities before they reach crisis point. We believe mental wellbeing begins in everyday moments — in trusted spaces, honest conversations, and relationships built on care. Our goal is to create safe, inclusive environments where people feel empowered to talk about mental health openly, without shame, stigma, or fear of being judged.

Our Mission

Our mission is to deliver prevention-focused, person-centred mental health support through trusted, community-led spaces that reflect the lived realities of those we serve. We are committed to: Normalising conversations around mental health, especially in communities often excluded from traditional care. Creating spaces of belonging for individuals from all backgrounds — including men, women, LGBTQI+ people, young people under 25, and global majority communities. Empowering people through peer-led support, creative expression, and practical tools for emotional wellbeing. Building bridges between lived experience and professional understanding, offering a model of care that is compassionate, relevant, and impactful. Championing cultural understanding and equity, ensuring that all voices are heard, respected, and supported. ​ We began our work in Hammersmith & Fulham, one of London’s most affected boroughs for mental health inequalities and suicide rates. Our mission grew from the urgent need to create local solutions that could complement — not compete with — overstretched clinical services, providing grassroots support where it’s needed most.

Our Goals

1. Prevention & Early Intervention To shift the focus from reactive crisis care to early, preventative support that helps people manage their mental health before reaching a breaking point 2. Peer-Led Community Hubs To build and sustain peer-led spaces that are safe, welcoming, and locally rooted — led by people with lived experience and trained in trauma-informed care. 3. Culturally Responsive Support To develop programmes that are culturally conscious and inclusive, tailored to the specific needs of underrepresented groups — particularly Black, Asian, Global Majority, LGBTQI+, and migrant communities. 4. Empowerment Through Education To provide psychoeducational workshops and accredited mental health training that give individuals the knowledge and confidence to support themselves and others. 5. Creative Engagement & Expression To offer creative outlets such as music, storytelling, journaling, art, and movement that allow people to explore and express their emotional experiences in non-clinical ways. 6. Digital Inclusion To bridge the gap for individuals struggling with digital exclusion by providing tech support and guidance to access essential services and online mental health resources. 7. Reduce Stigma To actively challenge stigma around mental health through outreach, open conversations, campaigns, and visibility — especially in communities where silence has become the norm. 8. Expand Our Reach To replicate the MOM model across multiple boroughs in London and eventually nationwide, ensuring that more people can access compassionate, peer-driven, and holistic mental health care. 9. Sustainable Volunteer Leadership To invest in our volunteers through training, mentorship, and lived-experience recognition — creating a sustainable model for community-led leadership in mental health. 10. Collaboration, Not Competition To work alongside existing services, charities, and public health providers — complementing their efforts and filling the gaps with empathy, trust, and grassroots insight.
